My research interests included the biological and physical factors influencing larval transport, larval ecology, and crustacean behavior. The focal point of my dissertation work in Delaware has been the early life stages (larvae and post larvae) of the blue crab Callinectes sapidus Rathbun. I have specifically investigated the structure and transport of larval patches on the near shelf and the adjacent estuary. A complimentary part of my project was to determine the genesis of larval patches. A computer model using empirical patch trajectories and local physical data was used to simulate possible aggregations of hatch-imminent female crabs.

My past academic and research experiences have equipped me with expertise in the field of marine biology, specifically larval ecology (patch dynamics, transport and, behavior). The examination of bio-physical processes that lead to larval transport in the aquatic environment has served as a common theme for each of my previous research activities. This research theme has been most recently applied in my dissertation, which was completed and defended before my advisory committee last fall (2003) at the University of Delaware’s College of Marine Studies (CMS)."

Science education is something I feel is imperative for all people. I’ve been involved in secondary and alternative educational programs, and these experiences have further fueled my interest in finding ways to make science easily accessible to people, to spark a scientific interest in young people, and to help steer qualified and motivated people into science and engineering.
